ShipWorkflow is an n8n automation agency. We build workflow automation systems for agencies, paid communities, and scaling businesses — connecting your existing tools and eliminating the manual work that sits between them.
If you're looking to hire an n8n developer or agency, here's what we build, how we work, what it costs, and what to look for before signing anything.
Why n8n, not Zapier or Make
We get asked this on almost every discovery call. The honest answer:
Zapier is fine for simple, low-volume automations. If you need to connect two tools and run a few hundred tasks a month, Zapier works. But the moment you start building serious systems — complex branching logic, high task volumes, custom API calls, sensitive data — Zapier gets expensive and constraining fast.
At 10,000 tasks a month, Zapier costs hundreds of pounds. n8n, self-hosted on a £5 VPS, costs almost nothing. For the agencies and communities we work with, that difference matters.
Beyond cost, n8n supports custom JavaScript and Python inside workflows, direct HTTP requests to any API, and complex conditional logic that Zapier simply can't replicate. It's the difference between a tool and a proper automation engine.
We self-host n8n for every client that handles sensitive customer or financial data. Their data never touches a third-party server.
What we build
Paid community automation (Discord, Skool, Telegram)
This is our most in-demand service. If you run a paid community on Discord, Skool, or Circle, we connect your payment processor to your community platform so that the entire membership lifecycle — onboarding, access management, failed payment recovery, offboarding — runs without human involvement.
A founder running a 400-member paid Discord community came to us spending 20+ hours a week on member admin. Six weeks after we delivered their system: zero manual role assignments, zero access leakage, and a failed payment recovery rate of 18% in the first month alone. See the full case study: how we automated a paid Discord trading signals community.
Agency workflow automation
We build the automation infrastructure that lets agencies grow without adding headcount. Client onboarding flows that trigger the moment a contract is signed. Automated reporting that pulls from Google Ads, Meta, and GA4 and delivers formatted reports to clients on schedule. Lead follow-up sequences that run consistently without anyone needing to remember.
One London marketing agency was spending 4 hours per new client on manual onboarding. That's now 15 minutes — used only for the kickoff call itself.
Custom internal tools and dashboards
When a client's operation has outgrown their spreadsheets but doesn't justify enterprise software, we build bespoke internal tools. A single dashboard that replaces six spreadsheets and three Slack channels. A project tracking system built exactly for how a 12-person team actually works. A client delivery portal that makes reporting automatic.
eCommerce retention systems
We build the back-end automation infrastructure for eCommerce brands — post-purchase email sequences, abandoned cart flows, replenishment reminders, VIP customer segmentation. Built properly in Klaviyo or ActiveCampaign, connected to Shopify, running without manual intervention.
SaaS onboarding and ops automation
For B2B SaaS companies, onboarding is where customers decide whether they'll stay. We automate the entire flow — from contract signing to account setup to first-value milestone — cutting time-to-value and removing the manual coordination that slows everything down.
How to hire an n8n developer: what to look for
If you're evaluating n8n developers or agencies, here are the questions that separate real experience from someone who's watched a few YouTube tutorials:
- Do they self-host n8n? Cloud n8n is fine for low-stakes automation. Anything involving payment data, customer PII, or high volume should run on a self-hosted instance. An agency that doesn't self-host for clients with sensitive data is cutting a corner.
- How do they handle errors? Every production workflow fails eventually — webhooks time out, APIs go down, data comes in unexpected formats. Ask what happens when their workflow fails. The answer should include error trigger nodes, Slack or email alerting, and logging. "It shouldn't fail" is not an answer.
- Can they show you a live workflow, not a demo? Most real n8n work looks nothing like tutorial examples. Ask to see the execution log of a live production workflow for a real client. Complexity, branching, and error handling show up immediately.
- Do they document what they build? You need to be able to understand and maintain the system after they deliver it. Documentation isn't optional.
- What's their handoff process? A properly delivered n8n project includes the working workflow, documentation of what each node does, instructions for updating credentials, and a testing walkthrough.
Pricing: what n8n automation projects actually cost
Pricing varies significantly by scope, but here's an honest range:
| Project Type | Typical Scope | Price Range |
|---|---|---|
| Single workflow | One trigger, 3–8 nodes, one integration | £300–£800 |
| Community automation | Stripe + Discord/Skool, onboarding + cancellation + dunning | £800–£2,000 |
| Agency ops automation | Multi-workflow, CRM + reporting + client onboarding | £1,500–£4,000 |
| Full automation system | 5+ workflows, custom dashboard, ongoing support | £3,000–£8,000+ |
Be cautious of agencies quoting under £300 for anything involving production payment flows or member databases. You get what you pay for — a workflow without proper error handling or documentation is a liability.
How we work
Every project starts with a discovery call where we map your current manual processes and identify the highest-impact automations. We then design the full system architecture before building anything — so every workflow is connected correctly and scales properly from day one.
We build with proper error handling as standard. Every workflow has alerting — if something fails, you know about it immediately and can intervene. We don't build systems that fail silently.
Every handoff includes documentation. You understand what was built, how it works, and what to do if something needs adjusting.
Most projects are live within 2–4 weeks. We stay available for ongoing support, maintenance, and new workflow additions as your business grows.
